SELFtember™: Join Me Now For A Healthy Change

SELFtember®: Join Me Now For A Healthy Change

Happy September! Wow. I can’t believe how fast the year is flying by and summer is coming to an end. I can now play outside without melting! YAY. I am determined this year to get as healthy and fit as possible so that I can enjoy being a happy and healthy Melany. What does this mean? It means that I am dedicated to getting back into fighting shape, and this includes shedding one very yucky habit.

One habit that I am proud to have shed is smoking. It’s a topic that no one likes to talk about. I hope that removing the taboo, and sharing my story will hopefully inspire others to take the first step and shed it from their lives too!

Not only was it terrible for my health, but my breath smelt like smoke and it left an awful smell in my closet. I used to blame so many other factors in my life for my smoking habit. It wasn’t until I finally decided that it was time to stop blaming everyone and everything else and make a change. I was determined to be done with it forever. There are so many ways to quit smoking, but what really worked for me was the desire to have a healthier lifestyle. That meant stopping smoking, eating better and making time for physical activity. I was mostly motivated by starting to take my health seriously.

Now, I go to the gym regularly, golf, hike and explore nature. I love being outside cruising around in my golf cart with my cute little outfits, being smoke free. The air smells so much better now. Clean! Plus, it is an absolute pleasure taking long deep breaths of fresh air and not huffing and puffing while working out. Did you know that food tastes so much better after you quit smoking? Truly!

I am a strong believer that a happy life comes with balance. While I have made huge strides to cut out the bad, I make sure to still make room for treats, much like this ice cream sandwich!

Did you know that food tastes so much better after you quit smoking? Truly! I am allowed a cheat day and this ice cream sandwich hit the spot!

Tastes so good! YUM

I did have help though. I used Nicorette® Gum. It definitely helps keep those annoying cravings at bay. Nicorette® Gum is a stop smoking aid available in a variety of flavors with two different strengths. I like the White Ice Mint® and Cinnamon Surge™, but for those of you who like sweeter tastes I heard the Fruit Chill™ is good too. I would so much rather reach in my purse for a piece of gum. Wouldn’t you? Only Nicorette® Gum has patented dual-coated technology. It also has a great taste, and helps relieve those nagging cravings associated with quitting.

Get out there!

Choose change.

Another great resource for me was the MyQuit email support program. It is totally customizable. Register! I did and it helped so much. It kept me on track and gave me the right motivation, when I needed it the most! Think of it as a coach for quitting and beginning a whole new healthy lifestyle.

BONUS – Coupons.com is offering a separate $10 coupon, available for download during September/October that can be used at any retailer that sells Nicorette® and NicoDerm® CQ ®.

I’m trying to exercise more. It’s been difficult with both asthma and arthritis but a little each day helps more than sitting around making excuses.

I’m going to try and be more calm, and just “brush things off”. Not getting so stressed out is the key to my health issues. I can’t let other peoples negative attitudes depress me, I have to think more positive and then more “positive” things will happen for me in my life.

After being a smoker for 20 years this year I have decided to quit for good. I have quit for pregnancy’s (one earlier this year), for my health, for my kids, my spouse & for other various reasons but never have I ever quit JUST FOR MYSELF. For no reason other than just for me. So thats what I have been working on all of September & October.

I’ve cut back on sweets. It’s hard, but I find that having a couple of bites of something sweet instead of a big chunk is quite satisfying.
