Never Forget Is More Than A Hashtag: 9/11/2020

Parents ask your children if they know what happened on September 11, 2001. Teachers ask your students if they know what #neverforget truly means and if they know it is more than a hashtag for social media. Children ask your parents if they remember what really happened that day. Do they know who our true enemies were and still are? Who the heroes were that day and are today? How we came together as the greatest country in the world regardless of race, religion, ethnicity or political views to fight our true enemies. United as one. Do they know?

“Those who don’t know history are doomed to repeat it.”

9/11 is always hard but this year is amplified because so many have forgotten or were never properly taught.

Take the time.

I have been up all morning watching and remembering that horrendous day. I remember it so clearly, where I was and what I was doing. I also remember when my sister and I visited New York shortly after and that we HAD to visit ground zero and pay our respects to all that were stolen from us that day. We HAD to THANK the New York fire departments and New York police officers. We HAD to see the heroes and THANK them and pay our RESPECTS to them and to the fallen.

Respect.

The idea of defunding the police department in New York makes me think of the many heroes that selflessly and bravely gave their lives to save every, single life on 9/11. The first responders didn’t care what you looked like or where you came from. They cared that America was under attack and wanted to save as many as they could regardless of anything else. My heart breaks to see our country in such turmoil and for these men and women who were and still are heroes to be villainized as they are right now. Yes, there are bad apples in every bunch but there are many more who serve and protect this country day in and day out! They serve to protect YOU and YOUR FAMILY.

Honor. Courage. Bravery.

Remember. Freedom isn’t free.

Our enemies are always watching so please stop fighting one another and come together as proud Americans fighting together to maintain our freedom in the United States of America. The greatest country in the world.

We have lost our way but we can still come together as we did then.

Learn. Teach. Respect. Be proud. Be brave. Be good people. Be good to one another.

Be proud to be an American!

I am.

God bless America.

Thank you for this. So beautifully stated.

I agree 100%! But I differ with the “lost our way” sentiment. I believe a certain segment has been coaxed to believe otherwise and we are the “problem” rather than “the shining light on the hill”. If this country is so bad, why are people sneaking in to get what we have and our detractors just wont pack up and leave?

Keep up the great work Melanie!
