I can’t believe it is the end of summer already! I am still moving into the house. Week three of the longest move ever. You can be sure that I am planning an end of summer party myself! Here are some great tips from Laura on how to throw a chic end of summer party!

An end of summer party calls for a chic outdoor affair with your favourite people, yummy food, great music and a few props and games thrown in. We often get busy over the summer period, and an end of summer soiree is the perfect way to catch up and celebrate the last of those sunny rays. Here are a few ideas to help you host a blissful bash that will send summer out with a beautiful bang.

Style

Keep it simple but make it chic. Send out paperless invites to all your favourite friends. The website PaperlessPost is a super stylish way to design your own personal invites to send over email. Choose a theme. A beachy summer theme is a great lighthearted way to bring some colour to your home. Don’t make it fancy dress, but tell your guest to dress up in vibrant colours that are appropriate for a stylish summer soiree. If your party is going to be inside and outside, jump on the celebrity craze of inflatable swans and get one for your garden space. This will provide endless photo opportunities ready to load on Instagram. Decorate your home with bright coloured flowers and balloons and add a vibrant tablecloth to the table. Make sure there’s lots of ice available and don’t forget serviettes and lots of plastic cups. Pay attention to seating and make sure you have enough chairs. If there aren’t enough, add vibrant floor cushions and oversized pillow for a relaxing vibe. If you have a large garden space, invest in or consider borrowing a few folding chairs. Stick to a colour theme. Greens and turquoise work great for a tropical feel. Create a warm ambience with outdoor fairy lights which will also work well as dusk falls. Also, think about fragrances. Light some summer scented candles before the party. Also, buy some lavender and citronella candles for when the party is in full swing. These are also great for repelling bugs!

Food And Drink

When hosting an end of summer party always keep food simple and stick to things you can make ahead of the party. Summer favourites include mini hamburgers, corn-on-the-cob and hot dogs. Think relaxed, easy and beachside fun. Add some refreshing fruit such as watermelon and strawberries for extra zing. For dessert stick to fruit, sorbet and ice-cream. Make food and drink self-serve so you can take the worry out of always being in the kitchen. Make sure to have lots of ice-cold water and a soft drink selection for those not drinking alcohol. For alcoholic drinks, you’ll want to create two signature cocktails. Buy liquor online so you don’t need to worry about lugging it all home. Celebrate the essence of summer with fruity cocktails. Strawberry Basil Margaritas work well for a big pitcher, as does a Tangerine, Campari and Tequila cocktail.

Playlists and Games

Don’t forget that all-important summer playlist. Go classic old school with summer songs by Don Henley and Ella Fitzgerald. Then add some modern into the mix with Taylor Swift, Rihanna and Calvin Harris. The key is to get people dancing and joining in! Also add some games into the mix with a piñata, Twister and giant Jenga.

The aim of the end of the summer party is to get people to kick back and relax in style. And then wish they could throw a party as good as yours!
