How To Make Valentine's Day As Individual As You Are

Thank you Laura for this post about Valentine’s day!! It is coming up next week. Are you ready?

Valentine’s Day is fast approaching, but what if you’re turned off not on by the usual stuff that comes with the day love is celebrated across the world? If you can’t bear the thought of a giant cuddly toy, a single red rose and a cheesy declaration – don’t panic, you can still enjoy Valentine’s Day with your partner. The secret is making your day as individual as you and your man are. After all, your relationship isn’t the same as everyone else’s, so why should the 14th February be any exception?

Plan a culinary trip around the world by cooking dishes from the places you have visited together. Better yet, eat the traditional fayre of the countries that you are planning to go, and make it the start of travelling plans that you can both enjoy together. Add a little ooh la la by including a baguette with some tasty cheese and wine – and that can be the start of a French adventure. Spice things up with a range of tapas dishes, and talk about how you could be saying ole to boring beach holidays. The only limits are the ones within your imagination – and the planning is half the fun!

Give a card that is truly personal by making your own using old photos and souvenirs from your holidays. If you’re not as handy with the arts and crafts as you’d like, or you just don’t have the time to start creating – consider going for custom valentines cards online. You can make your card fit your partner and your relationship for a much more meaningful representation of the love you share.

Go on a trip down memory lane by recreating your first date. Wear the same outfit that you had one when you were dizzy with the excitement of first love, and go to the same restaurant. Alternatively, you could recreate the day you both said ‘I love you’, to remind yourselves of why you’ve been such an amazing couple for all this time!

Your own version of romance doesn’t have to be a clichéd hearts and flowers affair. If getting a lie in while he takes care of the chores is romantic for you – don’t be afraid to make it happen! Maybe you feel loved when he listens to you as you talk about a long and stressful day – and that’s a great thing! Perhaps your partner doing the grocery shopping is romantic – he’s letting you chill out while he gets everything sorted, and there’s nothing wrong with that!

You don’t have to do Valentine’s Day like a cheesy rom com if that’s not your bag – it can mean anything you want it to. If you need any inspiration for date ideas, read this article. The important thing to remember is that showing you love your partner shouldn’t just be a once a year occurrence – true romance happens all year round, and sometimes at the most random of times! So go on, do Valentine’s Day your way – you’ll be really glad you did!
