NFL Fall Fashion Picks: Cheering The Cardinals To The Playoffs

I am a fan of a lot of things but some of my most passionate fanaticisms come in the form of favorite sporting teams and fashion! Sports and fashion go together for me like peanut butter & jelly, snarky & Melanysguydlines and Teddy Brewski & Melany Berger, and…well, you get it. I am a sporty chick, but just because I can throw and catch a ball better than most men, does not mean I don’t know how to dress for a sporting event. Trust me. There is a right and wrong way to dress for a football game and you don’t want to be “that girl” while watching your favorite team head into the playoffs during these cold winter months, right? It’s ok if you need a few “guydlines” for fall holiday fan styles because I am here to share some of my picks with you!

As you all know, I am born and raised in Northern California and a San Francisco 49er faithful (even though we are having a tough year). But, as you all also know I now live in Phoenix, Arizona home of the Cardinals and they are kicking some tush this year! I went to my first game and the stadium is gorgeous. Plus, it helps that Arizona is winning and headed to the playoffs!

A few weeks ago the stadium had the most consecutive sold out games! Count it. There were 100 consecutive sellouts at the University Of Phoenix Stadium since it’s opening in August 2006. Awesome! Now that is what I am talking about. The Arizona Cardinals have some of the most loyal fans around and I am excited to be one of them now. I can love two teams. Plus, the 49ers and Cardinals are in the Western Conference so I cheer for that too!

Another reason I love the Cardinals would have to be all the dancing on the sidelines. Who doesn’t love a quarterback who dances like no one is watching when everyone is and becomes an Internet sensation while supporting his team? I wonder if Drew Stanton can teach me some of those moves? Maybe he can teach Kaep too? Did you see that video? It rocks. Love it! Now, that is passion.

Now, lets get to the good stuff. The 49ers just barely lost to the Cardinals this past weekend so that means it looks like the Cardinals are headed to the 2016 Playoffs. What does that mean for me besides training my liver for celebrating? It means that I need to have the perfect outfit to wear while watching the Cardinals win.

Now, there is a fine line between being fashionable and looking like you are trying too hard. There are a few things I do when styling my perfect fan-fit (aka fan outfit).

***Keep in mind it is cold here in the desert. It goes straight to your bones so I always suggest layers, layers, and layers – but of course they need to be snarky and cute.

I always head over to the NFL shop and browse away. There are so many choices there for ladies (or a boyfriend for a Holiday gift. He will thank me later). The site is super easy to navigate and has the cutest fan styles for fan –fashionistas.

I had so much fun shopping on the NFL that I ordered a big box worth of Cardinals gear, which arrived super fast. The only problem is that I had a hard time deciding what I wanted to wear because everything was so damn cute! Choices. What is a fashionable fan to do? Well, let me take you through my decision process. Don’t judge the clothes on the bed.

Always remember to pick colors that look good on you! I chose this fitted, V-neck, charcoal Cardinals women’s tee. It is cute and I love that bird.

So many cute choices!!

But, like I mentioned before it is cold out there so I also grabbed the red V-neck, long sleeve Cardinals, women’s shirt. I look good in red. Doesn’t everyone? Bonus, you can wear this over the Charcoal V-neck to make sure you don’t freeze your cute butt off.

My butt? Well, I didn’t put mine in your everyday jeans. I paired with super tight leather pants with silver rocks star zippers and red heels to give a pop of color (snarky)! Stand out. Show your style and nothing says my style more than rockstar pants and a Cardinals shirt!

Next, I added a black blazer over both the grey V, red long sleeve to dress the outfit up even more if you want to hit a red carpet or club.

Teddy Brewski wants to go too!

But, my favorite piece of Cardinals gear from the NFL  has to be the Cardinals sweatshirt (which I am wearing right now).

It isn’t too bulky so you can move around!

Actually, I am not sure I have taken this off since the box arrived. It is an awesome combo. of Cardinals colors, super soft and makes a statement.

Love this sweatshirt!

Plus, it is not bulky where you can’t wear the other two tees underneath. Trust me – you will be the most stylin, sporty, Cardinals chick around and WARM. This is perfect for tailgating before or celebrating in a dive bar after the game too.

Personally, I’m rooting for the Cardinals to go over the seahawks. That’s it!
As for fashion and sports? As long as there are no dumbasses without shirts on, or women looking like they just stepped out of a Beverly Hills Mall, I’m all good.
I am 49er Faithful through and through. (We really need new ownership, since Jed York has absolutely no idea what it means to put a franchise team together.)

Something I’ve noticed at football games…..
1)Big guys, who think it’s awesome to get pneumonia, because they want to cheer their team on by painting their chests! UGH!
2)Women who are all about the bling they’re wearing, instead of rooting their team on.
3)Moronic fans who think pretending to shoot people after a big play is a good idea.
4)Fans who get into major arguments/brawls with opposing fans.

People need to get back to what watching sportsd are all about. The GAME! After-all… it’s called a game for a reason. It’s a bunch of grown adults, getting paid to PLAY and entertain. There should be no reason to get into fights in the seats. If you’re at a game and have no interest in the game out on the field, leave! Otherwise, ask what is going on, so you can be educated to understand the system at hand.
Nothing is more annoying than either A) listening to people talk about what they’re doing when they get home with so and so, or B) Watching a bunch of drunk asshats be rude, demoralizing and trying to start fights.

By the way, I applaude your ability to stay a 49er Faithful, and be able to root on the team of your current location. Great read, cousin. And very well thought out, and warm, outfit for game watching.

Hmmm… I wonder how those clothes would look in black and gold, even though a certain someone in my life would want red-white-and-blue instead… just sayin’ 😉

Also, LOVE the red v-neck and concept of pairing sporty gear with trendy, rocker, feminine pieces. Work it!

    Hey Mel,

  12. Leighton December 3, 2015 at 6:02 pm #

I am a HUGE fan, both of the Cardinals, and of course, of you! The Cardinals are finally bringing it. We are no longer the doormat of the NFL. Heck, we even made it onto Sunday Night Football, two weeks in a row!!! And we won both!
Keep blinging! This is our year!

    • Melany December 4, 2015 at 8:51 am #

YES!!! Thank you!!! GO CARDS. You rock and I am a fan of you and so is Teddy Brewski!

  13. Anne December 3, 2015 at 9:29 pm #

You look amazing in the red, and your choices are perfect for you!! I already have the long sleeve and short sleeve tees, will have to look into a hoodie when the exchange rate improves 😉 I’ll have to grab my own since a certain someone prefers the black and gold to my red, white and blue!!!

    • Melany December 4, 2015 at 8:46 am #

Thank you so much! I seriously have work the sweatshirt every, single day! It is so soft and warm! Yes, get some!! Thanks for the comment.
