What Is A Social Media Influencer?

What is a social media influencer?

People always ask me what a social media influencer is and what it is that I do for a living? Well, besides being a snarky blogger, I work as an influencer for some great companies.

A company that knows the importance of influencers is Cox Business. They are the same company behind the #GetStarted events that take place around the country and supports small businesses and entrepreneurs. They are also the great company that sent me to the UFC fight where I got to fight with the Ice Man himself (not really, but kinda). Tomorrow, I am going back to Cali, Cali, Cali with Cox Business and joining some of the top social media influencers for #GetStartedOC –  Storage Wars style! I love that show. Don’t you? It is going to be another amazing event! Follow me on twitter to keep up to date @Melanyb12.

More and more brands are discovering the importance of social media influencers because people respond better to influencers as opposed to celebrity endorsements.

Influencers are people like you and me who love a brand and want to share their knowledge and passion of that brand via social media.

Social media is all about building relationships and the only way you can build a relationship is with trust.

So, there is a responsibility of the influencer to truly love the brand they are working with and not represent brands solely for monetary gain as many celebrities have done in the past. People trust influencers. Remember, influencers did not start out that way but developed strong relationships with their following because of honesty and in my case “snarky” reviews on products and brands.

There are still some brands that don’t yet understand the importance of allowing an influencer to speak in their own voice to represent their brand. Influencers know their followers and that is the key for successful partnerships!

I was recently interviewed by Infusionsoft about this!

PS  – I am still patiently waiting for the results of the Shorty Awards. Thank you to everyone who nominated me! I came in first with 577 nominations in blogger at almost 150 nominations over the person in second place. Fingers and toes crossed!

**Stay snarky my friends!**

I’m trying to be like you when I grow up. I’m building from the ground up and I’ve been grooming brands for a little over 2 months. How would you suggest approaching a brand about being their designated influencer, if they don’t approach you first? Or do you think it would be a no go if they didn’t ask even if they follow you already?
