Make Your Eyes Pop With These Beauty Tips

Happy Sunday! I am off to LA for the week and hoping to use some of these makeup tricks tonight on my big brown eyes!
Mom and I are going out on the town in Beverly Hills for the Golden Globes and will take a lot of pics for your viewing pleasure. If you know me, you know I love my eye makeup and this post from Laura is awesome….as usual.

It’s no secret that getting eye makeup right is no easy task, at least, I don’t think so anyway. Eye makeup – eyeshadow, mascara and liner, can sometimes feel like your worst enemy. If you don’t know how to apply them properly, that is. We all want to achieve the most beautiful eyes, but the problem is that making them stand out for the right reasons isn’t always easy.

To help you make your eyes pop, and stand out for all the right reasons, here are a few beauty tips to take note of:

Learn to highlight

For eyes that stand out, highlighting is a must. Ask any makeup artist the most important thing when it comes to achieving beautiful eyes that pop, and they’ll say highlighting. Now, when it comes to highlighting, many of us avoid it because we don’t know where to start.

The good news is that highlighting is actually, much easier than you would think, to get right. To make your eyes appear a little bigger, pop some highlighter – ideally a pearly shade, under your brows. In the inner corner of the eye, pop a small amount of light highlighter, this will help to open them up. And finally, highlight from the outer corner along the lower lash line, to make your eyes look brighter. (You can use a specific highlighting pencil for this.)

Perfect your eyeliner

Many of us struggle when it comes to eyeliner, as often, the line we create appears too harsh. While a strong line on the top lid is fine, on the bottom, this can cause the eye to look smaller. For eyes that stand out, you need to ensure that you get your liner spot on.

For the lower waterline, always avoid black eyeliner as it really closes up the eye. Instead, opt for a brown or skin-colored liner. Make sure that whatever liner you use, that you soften the line by blending it with a blending brush. (Eco Tools have some lovely blending brushes, so make sure to check these out.)

Beautify your lashes

The next step is to focus on your lashes. While many of us think only of mascara when it comes to our eyelashes, that shouldn’t be the case. If you want beautiful lashes, as well as having a good mascara and primer on hand to use, you also need to take good care of them.

It’s important to cleanse regularly, to keep your lashes strong and healthy. It’s also a good idea to trim and comb them to help them grow. If you find that your lashes don’t seem to grow, it might be a good idea to buy Latisse, an eyelash growth serum. (This will give you lashes the growth boost that they need.)

Get your eyeshadow spot on

And last but not least, focus on your eyeshadow. Now, eyeshadow is something that many of us struggle with, especially knowing what shades to use. You’d think that to make your eyes stand out, you’d need to use a bright, bold color, but that’s not the case.

Unless you’re off to a fancy dress party, bright shadow is best left alone. Simply be applying a few pretty neutrals, you can create a gorgeous look. It will be subtle, but if you use shimmer, you can easily ensure that your peepers are eye-catching.

So there you have it, everything that you need to know about making your eyes pop.

Awesome tips! As a woman over 45, I struggle at time with the brighter and shimmery colors. I’m told it can make our eyes look even older? What suggestions would you have for us older gals?

It depends how it is applied. Too much of anything is never good. I would stay away from crazy colors and keep it more neutral. Also, a lot depends on the shape of your eyes. I have huge eyes so I wear gold shimmer on my lid, hint of darker brown in the crease and an ivory color as a highlighter. I never forget eyeliner! I prefer a crayon over ink. Try a fun black or blue color for eyeliner! What color are your eyes?
