Foo Fighters: Wins for no talent, bad chops, & worst band name ever!

I was not impressed or excited to hear that Dave Grohl was talking and playing  SXSW in Austin, which is one of the biggest music festivals of the year. I just don’t get it. The rock n’ roll community needs to step up and embrace real musicians and good music. Just wander into any bar in Austin, and I guarantee you will find more talent than the Foo Fighters. I saw a girl weighing 95 lbs (soaking wet) rock a bar and schlep a bass around the perimeter for hours during her set. She sang too (and well). Or, what about the Blues band whose lead singer sweated like the hardest working woman in show business rock a bar the size of my living room? Those are real musicians and should be given the spotlight. Move over Dave, and let the real talent shine.

How is Dave Grohl a top ROCK musician? Should have been a one hit wonder! He named his band the “Foo Fighters” for f@#!@ sake! He couldn’t think of another name?

Foo Fighters is the worst band name ever - and they use all of Nirvana's fame.

Foo Fighters is the worst band name ever – and they ride on Nirvana’s fame.

Come on. Their (so-called) music makes my ears bleed. Dave Grohl needs to stop riding on the coat tails of Nirvana from years ago. No one knew his name before Kurt Cobain passed away. It should still be that way. BTW….Grohl brothers, I have a great dentist. Get those choppers fixed ASAP! Email me for the number.

**Stay snarky my friends!**

That`s the worst shit I`ve ever read! To call them talentless is beyond rude!

Sorry if I insulted your favorite band – but, I am not a fan. Foo fighters suck!

How is Dave Grohl not a “real musician”? I mean, Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift, Katy perry and other shitty people like that might not be real musicians. But Dave DEFINITELY is. To have had the courage to start his own band after being the drummer for Nirvana is a BIG deal, okay? And it’s not like getting to where he is was a cake walk. He had work hard for it. Watch the video of the song “Walk” by the band. And hopefully, you’d understand how wrong that statement is. It is SO fucking hard for me to not cry right now because I’m a die hard fan. You should really not say shit about things you know NOTHING about. Yes, there are a lot of artists that aren’t recognized by the world even though they should be. Arctic monkeys, Porcupine trees, Forty foot echo, Rise against are all such examples. But that doesn’t make the Foo Fighters a bad band. The band is amazing and it deserves to be where it’s at.
And I think something’s wrong with your ears. “what is all of foo fighters hits are just unreleased nirvana songs that Kurt wrote”- YOU OUGHT TO BE DEAF! Their lyrics, their music… they’re MILES APART. You probably haven’t heard Nirvana’s songs or you wouldn’t have said something as stupid.

    Kindly get your ears fixed.

Thanking you, a die hard Foo Fighters’s fan.

Well, first -Thank you for reading. Second, I appreciate your passion for your band! I don’t meet many people that have the same passion for music anymore. It is funny how this post has sparked quite a few similar comments about the Foo Fighters and Dave. Lastly, I still hate the music. So, we can agree to disagree on that but at least we both listen to rock n roll, right?

You should be glad Kavya wasn’t around you when you wrote that otherwise you would be a dead meat.

    • Melany October 9, 2013 at 2:25 pm #

I see that – but still doesn’t change my opinion of the Foo Fighters though I respect her passion.

Thank you! Finally someone gets it. Why do people like this band? They are *awful*, I mean *awful*! I just don’t get it. To me it’s one of the greatest mysteries of our time 🙂

The Foo Fighters are terrible. I like to think I have an eclectic taste in music – ranging from Tool to Sublime, Bob Marley, Faith No More (note, none of these artists ever made middle of the road, crap music like the Foo Fighters). I was a proper Nirvana fan – I was a teenager in the 90s and I knew what it felt like when they arrived on the scene. If you weren’t around in the 90s, you will never know, or be part of that. For that I am very grateful as this generation’s music sucks big time. When Nirvana were no more, I was excited that Grohl was going to put out an album. I would say there was a couple of decent songs on there – I’ll Stick Around and Big Me. But that is it. Grohl has done very well considering the music he makes sounds like Nickelback. It is god awful, middle of the road soft rock. It is mind numbingly boring. As for that piece of sh*t album he released last year – Sound City? – with all those other musicians. It was just complete rubbish. I swear they sat there and just hummed a tune in their head and thought – ‘that will do!’ That is how I imagine Grohl makes his music. I also don’t particularly care for Grohl as he had no right to try and claim the rights to Nirvana’s music and I’m glad Courtney Love won out in the end. Grohl wasn’t the original drummer – he was the sixth! Love and Novoselic are rightful owners to that music – it would have been a damn cheek if Grohl got his hands on the rights. If he hadn’t been in Nirvana, there is no way you would get these teeny boppers proclaiming him as a ‘Rock God’. Geez. He makes mainstream soft rock for people too afraid to listen to proper rock and alternative music. Try listening to some Mr Bungle! Grohl is like Anthony Kiedis from RHCP. I love those three or four years when they just don’t make any music to inflict on the world. But then after those four years or so, Grohl and Kiedis will open up their butt cheeks and deposit another big brown turd of ‘music’. I admire that Grohl can play the guitar and drums. But that doesn’t make you a good songwriter. He should stick to the drums. Because I don’t want to hear his shite music. And you just know the radio stations will play the Foo Fighters songs to death when they release their new album, simply because he is Dave Grohl.

YAY! I am always a little anxious when I read the comments on this post because there are some die hard shitty music lovers out there! You are not – great taste in music! ROCK ON!

I disagree that Foo Fighters suck… I think it’s more like they are painfully mediocre. I think they have recorded some good songs in the past (most of which are not released as singles), but the vast majority of stuff they put out there is incredibly bland.

I have found myself wondering from time to time why the band gets so much positive attention, and I have come to the conclusion that a lot of it is simply good will directed toward Dave Grohl… whether it is because of his association with Nirvana or the fact that he just seems like a decent guy. I wonder if he is aware of this, and realizes that all he has to do is halfheartedly throw out semi-okay songs and people will eat it up. That certainly seems to be the case, as everything they release tends to be a hit, and very few people can bring themselves to explore the idea that the band may be anything less than amazing. Then again, what do I know?

Anyway, although I disagree about them actually being a “bad” band, I’m glad to see that some people are actually scrutinizing them, as opposed to just accepting anything they throw out there as gold.

This post is so funny that it must come up on searches regarding the Foo Fighters – it is like a the band is a bad penny I can’t get rid of. Though, I appreciate your comment and yes Melanysguydlines should always be an open forum for anyone to speak their mind. I too enjoy the fact that not ALL listners love the Foo Fighters!@

      • Tyler August 30, 2014 at 11:19 am #

Actually, yes. I found this page by typing “Foo Fighters suck” into the Google search engine.

        • Melany September 2, 2014 at 10:25 pm #

This actually made me laugh out loud. HA!

          • Dee Smith October 15, 2014 at 4:23 pm #

I’ve just Googled Foo Fighters suck and there it is! I don’t sit there thinking about them (Christ, why would you) but their new single is out tomorrow so thought I’d check there is still some sane people in the world who know how much this ‘band’ sucks. I’m hoping the world ends before tomorrow comes so I don’t have to listen to Grohl’s god awful vocals on another bland, predictable Poo Fighters ‘song’. And I now actually don’t like Grohl himself. Cobain had commented that he found Grohl to be greedy. Never took much notice as Cobain was a junkie who probably didn’t like many people. But I can see what he means now. Grohl is nothing more than a celebrity now, whoring himself and his album around, appearing on the Dave Letterman Show every day this week in the hope of selling some extra copies of his new CD. Bleugh. A millionaire who still feels the need to sell out. Welcome to Grohl Incorporated.

HAHA – this post gets a lot of traction! I need to write another about a band that has a lot of press without any talent? Like the Foo Fighters.

  8. Frank September 11, 2014 at 6:54 am #

    Thanks Melany for your post.
I listen to Nirvana still very often, and get chills whenever I listen to any of their very few albums. I mean every single song has something unique, natural and original that sticks to your head. Why? Cause Cobain was a superb songwriter and singer, and I believe with the help of Cris and Dave, delivered powerful and unique melodies that would stick in your brain and make you want to either jump or savor that special moment. For that thank you and thank you again Nirvana…
Then Cobain vanishes, Grohl grabs the guitar right away and launches FF. I was very pleased and enthusiastic with their first release This is a Call, I confirm it was a call, he had in a way found his own style, with softer voice melodies and descent guitar and drum parts, and then since 1995……………..NOTHING, the Hole I might say, only overproduced blend blues rock music with just NICE songs, none of them can be taken seriously really, they are all real rock’n roll cliché tunes and no more. I have nothing against Grohl and his mates but I truly believe that they reached their Nirvana not by the music they delivered but rather the extremely smart package they delivered, which is quite sad really. Yes Dave spits on stage, yes he chews gum, yes he plays drums like Bonham (which I agree but nows he plays guit!) yes he burps and drinks beer on stage, yes he says the F word may be 50 times per concert, yes that’s rock, but if you really try to put that aside and really listen carefully we are exactly at the same level as Coldplay for instance. Why all these overrated reviews when you have hundreds of other very talented bands that are overshadowed by these big acts???
That’s the rock’n roll show biz mystery….until a new sensation will come out, still awaited though, and will put everything back together!
    Any name?
    Keep on rock’in

    • Melany September 11, 2014 at 12:59 pm #

Appreciate this comment especially because it is clear that you love rock! Keep on rocking and yes…why do some bands get passed over by the larger-no nearly as talented small bands. Mystery!

I guess it’s your opinion, I mean I’m sure you have preference to a rock or metal band that I may not enjoy. I know Dave hates the name “Foo Fighters” so lol I guess. General discussion about any subject is good for it, hopefully your not discouraged by the back lash from Foo Fighters fans, I know Grohl would hate people fighting like this. Kind regards a hardcore Foo Fights fan.

    • Melany October 9, 2014 at 9:02 am #

Thanks for the comment! No fighting just passionate discussion about music which is healthy!

    You’ve made some great points.

I was in the Army when Nirvana’s “Nevermind” came out. I heard “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and I was floored. They seemed along the lines of the Pixies, who I’ve always loved. I bought the CD the next day and loved every track.

After Kurt’s demise I remember hearing about the Foo Fighters. I heard one of their songs on an “Alternative” channel and I immediately thought it sounded like radio-friendly Rock music. This band belonged on an Adult Contemporary channel. Nothing about them was edgy or inspiring.

I’ve always had an eclectic taste in music. I enjoy multiple genres. In the mid-90’s I listened to NIN, Ministry, Sublime (40 Oz to Freedom), White Zombie, Pantera, KMFDM, Pavement….. To name a few. A woman I dated back then had married friends of who we often spent time. At their home, the husband would play the Foo Fighters first album, over and over. It was the sonic version of being waterboarded (not that I knew the term at the time).

For me, if a bands music doesn’t totally inspire me lyrically, it can still appeal to me by just having a sound that stands out from other artists. Something that makes me want to rattle my head. Foo Fighters does neither. Their allure is dumbfounding. I think the Foo Fighters are edgy to people who’ve never heard edgy.

Great comment! Thanks so much for the note and I agree! This post is always funny because so many people are passionate one way or the other regarding the Foo Fighters! Love the passion! ROCK ON!

  11. Scorps July 31, 2015 at 12:49 am #

Foo Fighters is the light beer of rock. Watered down and drained of any real substance to the point where the only way somebody could find it offensive is in how little taste there is. They’re objectively better than Creed or Nickelback, yet somehow still manage to elicit from me the same lack of enthusiasm for their weak ass music. While committing no particularly egregious crimes against rock, their biggest violation is how completely unremarkable they are. I can’t even really say I hate the band, I just hate how popular they’ve become for doing so little.

    • Melany August 2, 2015 at 2:34 pm #

Totally agree and well said. HAHA! Rock on! Did you check out the Sevendust post?

  12. Nale Dixon October 21, 2015 at 1:23 am #

I am really looking forward to Dave Grohl joining Pixies on bass. That will be super.

Good! Happy you are looking forward to it

Thank Christ there are other people out there who know total shit when they here it. Have been ruminating on this for years and finally did a search to find like minds. Another one that’s bugged me my whole life pretty much is that The Doors were also total shit. Poor old Kurt Cobain. Maybe Grohl did it.

    • Melany February 8, 2020 at 6:38 am #

Not a fan! Still not a fan! But, def a fan of the Doors! Thanks for the comment and rock on!
